Technology in the marketplace is overriding state control faster than the politicians can grasp the concepts. Just as the internet ended the corporate oligopoly of information, the invention of the 3D printer may revolutionize society once again. Dan Dicks of Press For Truth interviews Cody Wilson, one of the major players in creating 3D printed guns. His non-profit company, Defense Distributed, publishes open-source gun designs, such as the Liberator. The Liberator is a 3D printable single-shot handgun. Its design was uploaded to the internet and despite authorities attempts to eradicate it, the plans are still downloadable from places like The Pirate Bay.
Of course, the RCMP will continue to target gun-owners. In regards to 3D printed guns, the RCMP has told PFT, “If law enforcement found an individual in possession of a 3D printer-manufactured firearm or parts of a 3D-printed firearm without appropriate licenses and registration, the firearm would be seized and the individual charged.”
While that may be true, eventually markets will supplant state control. Just as the Soviet Union collapsed from inner contradictions, so too will Canada’s gun laws change or face irrelevancy.
