Canada’s top public health official was asked in Parliament for a plain-language definition of a “pregnant person.”
Her answer: “A pregnant person is a person who is pregnant.”
When pressed on how that differs from a pregnant woman, and how someone who is not a woman can get pregnant, Nancy Hamzawi (head of the Public Health Agency of Canada) insisted that people who don’t identify as women can be pregnant, and that a person who identifies as a man but has the biological ability to get pregnant is pregnant.
She also struggled when asked about official language that replaces “women” and “mothers” with “pregnant individuals” and “birth parents.”
The Public Health Agency of Canada is issuing guidance that prioritizes gender identity over basic biology.
In this video Dan Dicks of Press For Truth breaks down the exchange, revisits his earlier warnings about Hamzawi’s appointment, and asks why Canadians should trust public health leadership that can’t state the obvious: only adult female human beings get pregnant.
