Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses were caught recording ordinary conversations and generating full audio/transcripts in the Meta AI app without anyone saying the “Hey Meta” wake word (and with the related setting turned off).
The issue appeared after a firmware update across multiple pairs and generations.
Meta’s response was essentially “it’s fixed” with no real explanation of the cause.
In this video Dan Dicks of Press For Truth explains that this isn’t just an isolated glitch.
Always-on face-mounted microphones feeding data into Meta’s systems sit inside the same corporate pipeline that has long cooperated with government collection programs (including the PRISM disclosures).
Convenience features are the packaging; denser surveillance infrastructure is the product.
Don’t buy them.
Don’t gift them.
If you already own a pair, treat them as any other always-listening device and leave them off for private conversations.
The only effective response is to stop volunteering to wear the sensors.
