Obama A Hypocrite In Promoting A “Nuke-Free” World

“All War Represents A Failure Of Diplomacy” - Tony Benn

Obama is headed overseas to Hiroshima where it is expected that he will promote his vision of a nuclear weapons-free world. He's going to become the first U.S. leader to visit Japan since the atomic bomb was dropped there back in 1945. The two bombings, of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, resulted in the deaths of at least 120,000 people. Some count that attack as one of the worst in history, and it should be mentioned that many times that number of casualties has already been lost in the war on terror overseas; more than 500,000 people have lost their lives. Hundreds of children and other innocent individuals have also died overseas in Pakistan and other countries, as a direct result of drone strikes that were authorized by Nobel peace-prize winning Obama himself.

While Obama might be the first one visiting, that doesn't mean he is going to apologize for the past bombing. He is not going to bring-up any issues of the past because he wants to stay focused on their partnership for the future. “He will not revisit the decision to use the atomic bomb at the end of World War II. Instead, he will offer a forward-looking vision focused on our shared future,” according to Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser.

Obama is allegedly “committed to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” the White House said in a statement. The visit is supposed to signify his dedication to pursuing “peace and security,” but his actions of pursuing arguably unjustified wars overseas work to the detriment of that supposed peace goal of his. Also, if it is true that the U.S. isn't looking toward any nuclear warfare in the future then why are planning to spend $1 trillion on upgrading their nuclear weapons? That is a lot of money to be spending on something that you don't think you will ever be using in the future.

The $1 trillion is going to be spent in an effort to “modernize” the US nuclear arsenal and production facilities. And it includes details how efforts to redesign nuclear warheads, nuclear bombers, submarines, land-based missiles, productions plants and weapons labs. This seems like a controversial move to be coming from a nation that is allegedly dedicated to peace and no more nuclear warfare. Especially since this plan violates the terms of the 1968 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that requires the nuclear powers to engage in nuclear disarmament.
