President Vladimir Putin has shared that Russian intelligence data on Islamic State financing has been collected, and Putin claims that it reveals financial support to be coming from at least 40 different countries. Some of those members, said to be financing the group, are allegedly G20 members.
“I provided examples based on our data on the financing of different Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) units by private individuals. This money, as we have established, comes from 40 countries and, there are some of the G20 members among them,” Putin told journalists. He says that he has shown photos that have been taken from space and aircraft, which “clearly demonstrate the scale of the illegal trade in oil and petroleum products,” says Putin.
It has well been established that the West has been found to have ties to terror groups and activities, and it's questionable as to why they would ever have their hand in creating, arming, or funding any of these groups. How is it not counterproductive to fund or arm a group that you've declared war against?
Tom Keatinge, director at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) Center for Financial Crime and Security Studies, has also previously stated that much of the terror-related financial support flows from the West. Alleged group members of the terror clan, have also publicly admitted that they earn millions of dollars every day from oil sales. And doesn't it seems rather naive to assume that an organization like the NSA, with a yearly operating budget of $10 billion and seemingly no limits in jurisdiction as far as spying goes, wouldn't be fully aware of who was involved in those oil sales?
Is there more that the US and others could be doing in order to stop this group, and if so why aren't they doing it? Their actions up until now have seemed to make the situation far worse; based upon the frequency with which we now hear about terror attacks in the news, and have the terror propaganda invade our daily lives. Before the September 11th attacks many people hardly ever heard about terrorism, and now it's almost a daily or weekly occurrence that we hear some horribly tragic news story related to their violent ambitions. Why are things getting worse, when the war on terror was launched well over a decade ago? Perhaps the continual method of fervent aggression isn't ever going to prove to be an effective one, especially not if you also choose to arm or fund the group that you are trying to get rid of.
