Are There Missing Canadian Indigenous Women? #ShutDownCanada

On Friday the 13th 2015 a nation wide protest referred to as #ShutDownCanada took place with the hopes of raising awareness about the issue of missing indigenous women. Protesters were encouraged by the organizers to take direct action in an effort to "shut down Canada". In Vancouver, this led to shutting down the intersection of Clark and East Hastings St. After 5 hours of protest, the police began to clear the streets by requesting that the protesters move onto the sidewalk. After nearly an hour of trying to clear the intersection, the police officers started making arrests, as they said they would.
